Clever rabbit foils hungry wolves!... written by Canuck
Fat Rabbit and the Wolves
A happy rabbit was hopping along the path from his home, a little hole in the ground, to the farmer's garden when 2 wolves jumped out of the forest from behind the trees where they had been hiding.
Wolves: Hooray! A tasty rabbit for lunch. Rabbit is fat and we are hungry.
Rabbit: Oh dear me, you are hungry wolves and I am lost. Can you tell me how to find my home?
Wolf 1: Your home is over there but a fat rabbit will taste so good. My wolf friend, wait for me to eat some of this rabbit and then it will be your turn.
Wolf 2: I will be the first one to eat this rabbit and then my friend, you can have your lunch when I am full and go to sleep in the sunshine.
Rabbit: Dear Wolves, you are both hungry and I am only a small rabbit. I am not big enough for both of you to have a delicious lunch. Who will eat me first?
Wolf 1: I eat first!
Wolf 2: No! I eat you first!
Rabbit: I have an idea. See that tree over there? When I say: "GO!" both of you race as fast as you can to the tree and then race back here. The first wolf that returns here gets to eat me and the other wolf must wait.
Wolves: Good idea! Tell us when to start the race.
The 2 wolves stand side by side and wait for Rabbit to shout "GO!"
Rabbit: Get ready! Go!
The wolves raced as fast as they could to the tree. Wolf 1 got there first but when he turned around to race back, his foot slipped on the grass and Wolf 2 turned and raced back, shouting:
Wolf 2: I am the fastest wolf, I win the race! Now I can eat the fat rabbit and you must wait for your turn.
But, he looked around and there was no rabbit to be seen!
Wolf 2: Where are you fat rabbit? I won the race! I am hungry and I can eat you now.
Rabbit shouts from his home under the ground:
Rabbit: I am in my home now. I’m sorry but I will be late for lunch today.
See you!
