Heat Mining -- a clean, zero emissions energy source
来源:洪恩论坛 Canuck's Comments  日期:2007-2-8  作者:maryk 阅读:1669
Hi all,

It turned out that it is geothermal energy that causes no emissions. There is ahotel being built in Canada that will use all gree energy, supplied by geothermal.

Iceland produces all its energy from geothermal sources

Canada plans to use it first in the Alberta Tar Sands.

How does this latest approach work?

They drill down 10 kilometres deep into the earth where it is very, very hot. Then they put water in. Or perhaps the water is already naturally available. It
turns to steam in the high heat of the earth at that depth. That steam is used
to produce energy. When the steam cools it turns back into water. Therefore, there is extremely little, or no loss of water.

This is being studied at universities, most notably M. I. T. in the USA.

Geothermal energy is seen as becoming a solid back-up to nuclear powered energy.
The ten kilometre deep shafts, when no longer useful, can receive waste nuclear
rods in their depths for safe disposal. I wonder what Tim, our resident geologist, thinks of all this.

I wrote about a CBC radio programme yesterday that was to be about clean, emissionsfree energy. Today at 8:30 am I listened and this is my report to you about
it. If you care to, you can go to CBC.ca, look up the programme "The Current" and listen to or read this and past programmes. I think you
will find CBC Radio is interesting and that the speakers sound very much like Canuck who has what is called "A CBC Voice." If you like the clarity and speed of
Canuck's voice you will also find these other voices equally clear and understandable although a little faster.

China has lots of seismic activity, so I suspect you will be able to mine geo-thermal energy, too.

Best wishes, Mary
