May Chinese New Year bring to all forum friends good health, great prosperity and much happiness! May our forum continue to be the place where friendship prospers and ideas flourish in the New Year and beyond!

Last night I had the most exciting and joyful New Year Eve I had ever had because we organized family performances resembling what CCTV did. My 11-year-old daughter acted as the director and anchor of the program. These two roles are among
most highly honored professions in her mind. Though I clearly lacked artistic talent, I did sing a song to the best of my ability and did a single-man cross talk show which made everybody laugh. It adds much more fun to participate in performances than to watch others performing on TV.

Nevertheless, nowadays you can hardly shun TV totally. After the big family dinner, we did watch a very inspirational program called moving and touching stories
happened in 2006. We were particularly moved by a story about an American granny living in a Chinese village. As a daughter of a US missionary, she was born in
a tiny village in Shandong Province and had remained in China until teenage before going back to the States. Somehow in her life she always feels that her root
is in China and always dreams about going back to China. But it was not until she was 76 after her husband passed away that her dream came true. Against much opposition from her family, she sold everything she got in the States and chose to live in the very Chinese village where she came into this world. Now she has lived in China for 7 years. She donated USD20,000 helping set up a computer room
in the village school where she volunteers to teach English once a week. As a professional nurse, she did a lot of volunteer work in local hospital ranging from
actual nursing to training courses. She even contributed quite a lot of money to buy much needed medical equipment for the hospital. Even her spare time is full of activities with visits from her friendly neighbors and students. People remember her birthday every year and a big party is a sure thing in place for her.
So, instead of making fiends in China, she has found herself among friends! Not a single day past when she felt lonely! Now even her sons and daughters understand her better after visiting her and seeing how she was treated and how she lived in China. At the end of this TV program, the anchor presented to her a trophy as one of ten moving stories in 2006 and spoke very highly of her by saying that we proudly call this American granny the daughter of China! What a powerful
saying!

I think this true story can best exemplify the meaning of "the best niche for leaves is the root of the tree" per Panpanpan’s words.

My best wishes to you all!

Dave
