Mazatlan, a valuable surprise #6
I think the last I told you was that we considered changing our room, but decided against it due to a change from a south to a north wind which made things a lot colder but didn't carry kitchen "fragrances" to our balcony.
To our great surprise when we checked in we were given an envelope containing acard which gave us, courtesy of Signature Tours, $100.00 US credit for drinks, and 20% off all lunches or dinners at the hotel restaurant. This card is shown first to the waiter, and one may need to insist on getting the discount, as we discovered. I think, mostly because they speak broken English. After a few times it was accepted easily. Maybe it was rather unusual to be given such a card. It may have been because they knew it was our anniversary, and also because we have stayed there over the years.
We had our first dinner in the hotel restaurant. There was a live singer and musician, so we tipped him 20 pesos when we left, which is about $2.50 Canadian. Some people tipped and some didn't. He was very good. We were very tired and went to bed about 9:30 pm. That night the great cold north wind blew and whistled around the hotel, slamming loudly any doors that it found open and bending palm trees wildly to the left. We were cosy and snug under blankets. And after all, it wasn't cold compared to what was happening at home!
