Mazatlan and two gold rings #7
Friday the 12th of January dawned -- our 50th Wedding Anniversary day, and as I wrote at the time in a little journal, we are very happy about that, and about our love for each other which just keeps increasing, and our lives together so far, and accomplishments -- especially of family.
I already told you some of the high points of the day in an earlier post, but I' ll repeat what I have in my notes. In the morning Ben obtained tickets for Saturday night's Fiesta Mexicana at the Playa Mazatlan, as none were available for Friday evening.
Ben also went to the excellent Panama Bakery to buy rolls and sweet buns and we had them for breakfast with coffee and some nuts and dried fruits I packed and brought along. It was exciting to be back in our favourite Mexican place again. The wind was still strong and we had lunch in the hotel Ben and I exchanged anniversary cards. Ben gave me my repaired Baha'i ring. That was the first ring. The second ring came that evening. Last summer I too-hastily closed a kitchen drawer with a strong shove, and didn't get my hand out in time. The tines of a table fork were driven into it to the bone. It swelled a lot and I needed to have a jeweller cut the ring to remove it. Now the swelling has receded and Ben had it repaired as a gift for me. I was happy to have it on the fourth finger of my right hand where it belongs. It shines like new, but the dark blue enamel in the symbol has been removed in places by the shining. Nevertheless, it looks fine!
Ben went swimming in the morning and early aftaernoon while I slept. I did a lot of sleeping during the first three days. I guess it was a combination of travel weariness, climate change, and sudden weather change down here. After three days I was better, but there was terribly strange winter weather everywhere -- in Mexico, in the USA and in Canada. There was even snow in Chihuahua, Mexico.
We put on our dress-up clothes for our 7 pm Anniversary dinner on the beautiful big, glamorous terrace beside the ocean at The Playa Mazatlan. It is the hotel next to our simpler Beach Resort, and we walked there. It is very impressive. One of the first 5* hotels there. There is a sweeping drive through massive stone walls. The paving is small, nataurally rounded pebbles set on edge, and the stone colours were chosen to form the designs. Of course there were lushg tropical gardens and a grand roofed outdoor reception area. Much grander than our fresh and simple Flores. But I prefer to stay at the Flores.
