Cellphone Camera, More Than a Mere Commercial Gimmick

Cellphones, with or without cameras, are devices that have become more and more of an indispensable to our modern life. Can you imagine life without cellphone today? The fact is all the more amazing, that is, every man jack and his wife
today thinks he and she has to carry a cellphone along, bulky or slim, outdated
or the most fashionalbe, from CEOs of multinational corporations to the low men
on the social totem pole, migrant workers. Even primary school students begin
showing off their new gadgets. In a few words, cellphones have changed our life
no less than have this overwhelming computer technology and Internet.

And no matter whether you like it or not, nowadays every cellphone seems to sport a camera, even some entry-level models. They are there "for free" for you,
just like the Karaok function on VCD players which were in vogue not many years
ago. But unlike the noise-producing gimmick that has later become a real nuisance to one's neighbors, the humble cameras on cellphones can really come in handy
and useful if their quality isn't too bad.

Usually capable of taking photoes of 0.3 million to 5 million pixels which can
be seen on a few cutting-edge ones, these cellphone on-board cameras seem to have begun making extensive inroads into the consumer DC market, especially that of those slim, card-like head-turners like T10 from Sony. But a dedicated card-style camera usually costs 1500 yuan to 3000 plus yuan, which is nearly the same
cost of a mainstream camera-cellphone such as Sony-Ericsson 790 or 800 series or
those similar ones from Motorola and Nokia. The real kicker here is, though, though not more than a "secondary" function to an electronic communicator, these
cameras can take photoes that are of practically the same good quality that those professional DCs have. And you have to carry your cellphone with you everyday
wherever you go, yet you are getting tired of that cannon-like chunky and heavy
SLRC, or that pretty but mono-functioned card DC.

This is where the cellphone cameras find their niches.

Camera-cellphones from Symbian camp (primarily Sony-Ericsson and Nokia) and Linux (Motorola) camp can't be more popular among young people around the world, but one real unsurpassed superstar is from giant Microsoft -- Windows Mobile, the
latest version available being 5.0, and 6.0 on its way. With Winows Operating
Systems being absolutely dominant in the markets of desktops and laptops, Windows Mobile has been in the inside track from the very beginning. And more and more manufacturers are flocking to join this ever increasing camp such as ASUS from
Taiwan, HP from USA, Amoisonic from China, and Samsung from Korea.

Of all the blinking super stars perhaps one that is best worth mentioning is HTC from Taiwan. The company won its spurs by a Dopod 696 a few years ago in mainland market, and its recent models have no doubt taken the whole world of IT fans by storm, one of which being the Dopod (its brand in China mainland) 830. The same model in Taiwan market and HongKong is coded 818 pro, in Germany O2 Xda,
etc. Powered on Windows Mobile 5.0, Dopod 830 is not only an advanced PDA, but
a full functional cellphone, and even better, a real portable DC. Its 2000000-pixel camera (CMOS) can take photos that are of a resolution of 1600X1200, the quality being just as well as that of any other products of the same rank. Just take a look at the photoes this device took, well precisely, I took -- with this
camerca-cellphone:

Given the quality of the photoes, can any of you still claim that cameras attached to cellphones are no more than a commercial gimmick?
