Chinese Cuisine, etc

Chinese cuisine is very popular at this Southwest part of the country. It is treated as different and exotic as Italian cuisine to people from China. After I had another Chinese take-away experience recently, I actually was surprised by the
delectability of adapted Chinese food.

I wrote my experience of ordering fish and chips in Chinese take-away last time.
But that was only one side of the story. Yesterday when my friend’s mother ordered Chinese take-away for her birthday, I was absolutely stunned. The set of
meal included prawn and garden bean fried rice, sweet and sour meety ribs, chestnut melon chicken, bean shoot with delicate duck slices, and fried chicken balls
sided with sweet and sour dipping sauce. Not only that, the quantity was huge.
The meal set was supposed for four people, but we four only managed to finish half of it.

At the dinner table my friend’s father asked me what I thought of British-style
Chinese food. I had to say that I liked it very much indeed, though somewhat it still puzzled me that how fish and chips went into Chinese restaurants here in
the first place, especially some of them simply named themselves “Fish and Chips Take-away.” Isn’t it strange?

Anyway, talking about food culture difference, another thing worth mentioning is
tea. Statistics on wiki show that in England people drink tea more than coffee.
I remember the first evening when my friend’s parents picked us up from airport, on the way back we dropped off at a roadside cafeteria and they ordered tea for themselves and me. That time I thought maybe they did it especially for me.

But actually as born British drinking tea has always been part of their life. And the types of tea around are amazingly diverse. Take the funeral wake I went last month for example, at the tea table you could find up to eight or nine types
of tea available: ginger lemon tea, aroma tea, brown tea, varied kinds of flower
tea (forgiving me for not remembering the exact names),etc. Dip the tea bag into a delicate porcelain cup, add water from kettle, add some milk if you suspect
the bitterness of the tea, and a couple of minutes later a cup of delectable tea
was ready.

Now though I still don’t drink tea as frequently as my friend’s parents, but gradually I start to appreciate the enjoyment of a cup of tea after breakfast in
the morning. It is a refreshing accompany to start every new day, helping you rid of dopiness and slowness to be ready for another day of hard work. And on top
of that, drinking tea, unlike coffee, is proven a healthy habit to keep. Now I
wonder who wouldn’t want a cup of tea.

P.S.:That said, my friend’s parent also shared the opinion that perhaps tea concept has gone a bit over the top here. On TV adverts you often can see containing tea is the selling pitch for lots of products such as shampoo, face foam. It is actually a bit similar to the craze for whitening products in China.
