Small bits of fun in the life

It has been a wet week. Waking up in the morning there isn’t much to see beyond
the window. All the scenery was blocked by the heavy mist. It reminded me of the mysterious motif started in Rebacca by Daphne Du Maurier. But I certainly enjoyed the rain. It made the garden wet and everything in the garden got chance to
drink in the raindrops to rejuvenate themselves, apple trees, daffodil, herbs,
bay trees, and winnow trees and the newly relocated ash trees.

Mentioning trees, I was told the other day there are various types of wild berries and fruits in the field nearby every summer. It made me quite excited. Thinking about how much you could make out from the harvest of those wild fruit: hawthorn, black berry, and cheery are all good ingredients for jelly, jam, or even blended juice. I remember when I was small in my family’s countryside house; I always enjoyed the wild fruit such as wild strawberry, mulberry, by the field or river. They were so small and handy that oftentimes you could just tuck them away
in your pocket. Though if you forgot to finish them and left them in your dirty
pocket, you were bound to be scolded during the next washing session by your mother. But who cared?

Anyway today I went to the field to pick bags of nettle for the dinner soup. On
the way I also picked some fat-hen for the four lovely 16-month-old chickens that my friend’s mother bought yesterday. It was such bliss to have them in the garden. They jumped and explored around the garden soon after they saw you return
into the house. Surely like all rebel chickens do, they went to peck your plants
, but totally ignored the food you put at their feet. And they pecked the raindrops from the grass or plant leaves, rather than from the water box in their henhouse. But isn’t that the very fun of having them?

Talking about cooking, I actually made an extraordinary lunch for myself today.
With the onion leaves growing in the garden and a stout eggplant added with two
tomatoes and half a red pepper, I made a dish going with noodles. There was actually no secret why it tasted so good, but only I put efforts in it. Downloading
a recipe from the Internet compensated my inexperience in cooking. I was quite surprised how my little effort paid off in the end. Morel of the story: There should be a way for most of things, if not all, that seem or sound formidable or nettling.

Lastly, I should not forget to mention what brought me the inspiration of writing this article. Whist in the field this drizzling afternoon, I finally identified what primrose looked like. This wild flower was mentioned in Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë, and it was actually the favorite of the protagonist. I was glad to have the chance to see it at this part of the country. But on the other hand,
I think this also shows the beauty of the nature: in it, more often than not, the more you pay attention the more surprise you will get.
