'Earthlings' we be!
Dear forum friends:
This is a fascinating subject - hope we can talk about it!
Although we know what our planet earth looks like from outer space, in my heart I find it really difficult to believe that we are living in thatweird looking object that is portrayed on my television screen. LatelyI have received several emails showing earth and how it compares insize to the other planets and to the sun and it is SO small. And this ishome! We have the name 'earthlings' which to me has a really sciencefiction ring to it. Living on this earth of ours it isn't easy to train our thoughts beyondthe here and now. I think we figure this is it so why bother! Really though – we live in an illusion. Although we know our planet moves around the sun we live life as if the earth is stationary and that the sun actually rises and sets. Right? I don't know about you but to not explore what is beyond what we cansee is really denying what is real. On a clear night what we see is only a tiny portion of the universe, and nothing in the universe staysstill. Everything is in constant motion. We are constantly spinning. To think that this is possible when I am sitting here quietly typing away! For me it is impossible to believe that this phenomenal creation we calla universe resulted by accident. It would be like maintaining that anencyclopedia can result from the explosion of a printing press! Here we all are, we human beings, we come in different sizes, shapes, and skin colors but these differences seem pretty superficial whencompared to every other form of life around us. And, no matter whatour outward differences, we all have potential to do the same things. And what is most exciting to me is that all humans, without an exception, are related to each other. We are at least 50th cousins! Still, we are all unique – no two of us are exactly the same. Therefore it seems that this universe operates on the principleof unity in diversity. It is as real as the law of gravity. Imagine what it would be like ifevery rock as the same size, weight, color and shape, if all theanimals looked alike and if we all looked the same and did the same things. Nature rejects uniformity, thank goodness, otherwisethis would be a world or robots. So what should we do with this diversity, suppress it or harmonizeit? Wouldn't it be wonderful world if we all celebrated each other'sdifferences in stead of condemning them? Maybe part of our purpose in life is to help create a world whereall people live together in harmony and accept each other'sfamilyhood and to be the family we really are.
Warmest regards, Sonia
