It is better to take actions than to complain,re Vicky
Dear Vicky, First of all, I can understand you. But I will not stand on your side. As a teacher, I often tell my students, they must keep two basic ideas in their minds. First, don’t complain about their teachers. And the second, since tthey can’t change the world, they must try to adapt themselves to it. When I was form master, I often told the students in my class:“No matter what your teachers done, don’t complain about them to your parents, classmates, friends, and anybody else.”Maybe most people would think that it is not right for me to do so. And most of my students refused to accept this idea at first. But when hearing my explanation, most of them understood me, and tried not to complain any more. I told them, I didn’t say that for the teachers, I said that on the side of the students. Because, there isn’t any use to complain, and the more they complained, the more they would found themselves reasonable, and wronged. So they may hate not only the teacher, but also the subject the teacher was teaching. So that they may get low marks in the subject. Then, they would think that it is just because of the teacher, that made them get such low marks, then more dissatisfaction about the teacher will come. That is a so called vicious circle. And at last, they themselves would lose the most by complaining. So no one is allowed to quarrel with teachers. If they have any problems with their teachers, they must come to me first. They should talk to me first, so that I can take about their cases with them, calm them down, and give them some suggestions. And I will talk with their teachers if necessary. Actually, I seldom need to do so . Most students would know what the teachers do, the teachers do that for them. So what they need to do is to improve themselves, but not to improve the teacher . They can benefit the most if they can think in this way. No matter how strong a person is, he can change the world little. I think we Chinese must know that better, because of that period called “The Great Leap Forward in the history.” Maybe you are just too young to know that. So one must learn to adapt himself to the society. Of course, I don’t mean we should passively give up to the society. I mean we must adapt ourselves to it actively. Just take your case as an example. Have you been benefited by complaining? Or do you think you can change your boss by talking with him? I am sure you are sure you can’t. So why complain. It’s not quite easy to get a job in China nowadays. So what you should do, and what you can do is to accept the truth, seize any possible opportunities to improve yourself, to make yourself skilled and powerful, to make yourself the VIP in your company. So that the boss must take your feeling into consideration, to make you satisfied. Otherwise you can choose another company, or run a company of yourself. I think it is an active way to adapt yourself to the company. Work is not only a way to earn yourself a life, it is a good opportunity to learn. I don’t think taking multi-tasks is a bad thing. I had the experience of taking multi-tasks for several years, and actually, I am taking multi-tasks now . I have teach one class English, and I am in charge of Modern Education in our school, that’s to say, besides teaching English, I should manage computers, the TV and radio system of our school, the network, and all the other modern educational equipment. What’s more, a website of our school. During those years, I taught two classes English, and I was the form master of one of the classes, and the Secretary Of the Youth League Committee of the school. In about 1996, our school bought the first computer of our school. It was said it was easier for those who have learnt English to learn computer. So that the headmaster asked me to operate the computer, that’s to say, I have to help the accountant to deal with the salary, and to deal with the scores of the students. And I was taking part in the self education examinations to get the Bachelor of Arts during those years . Even now, I can’t imagine how busy I was during those years. But what would happen if I just complained then? Maybe I wouldn’t be so busy. But I would learn much less. I had never even touch a computer before I worked, about four or five years after I worked. But now, I shall say I am quite familiar with computers, many friends ask me to help with their computer problems. Though there are several teachers majored in IT in our school, some problems on computers and network can’t be solved without me. I think you should think it over first, if what your boss asked to you to can get you improved, it’s a good opportunity, why refuse it and complain. Come on, my friend, no pain, no gain. Since you can live can't comfortably, you can choose to live happily, you just need to complain less. Look at things on its good side. Warmly, Les
