Something about Our Planet and Ourselves
Something about Our Planet and Ourselves
I read a story about my school mate’s internship in the US and try to translate it into English here.
Do you believe Spirit? For example, would some near-death- people’s souls escape from their body?
Before I came to the USA, I didn’t believe such things. I, however, am trying to accept the theory and regard the issues with a new perspective. Because Dr. Y recommended a prospective research—Near-death Experience in survivors of cardiac arrest: a prospective study in the Netherlands, to me. In the essay they found that 18% subjects had Near-death Experience. If there is no spirit at all, how could these phenomena be explained?
Before Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage around the globe, it was believed that the Earth was square and flat, it is round from the very beginning though. But no one saw it before Magellan’s voyage. At every stage, man can only see what he sees , but God sees everything.
Dr. Y is a soul psychologist. I accepted his inspiration and education during the week when he was my instructor. I was peaceful in these days. He told me that the spectrum of consciousness was from shadow to ego to existential to mind, which means the development of consciousness is from individual to environmental and universal. At that moment, I felt my consciousness stayed at the level of ego, because I never authentically concerned about the environment around me. What is going on with the environment? What wrong with the Earth? The conceptions haven’t emerged in my mind for a long time. What I worried about are the trivial and puny things. The Earth and universe seems too far and profound for me.
He lent me some DVDs including the Elegant Universe, the State of the Planet and the Global Warning etc. I found that the Newton’s Universal gravitation had evolved to String Theory and 11-dimension. But I still was Einstein’s age in 1940 and ashamed of this. When I watched the earth thawed gradually from the Ice Age on the effect of greenhouse, I felt alarmed; when I watch the hunger and poverty of Africa, the exploded population crowded on the streets and the environmental pollution and destroyed ecology, I was silent, then I felt painful in my heart …
In many ways, the most important challenge to the state of the planet is recognizing the seriousness of the problems lay ahead. Isn’t it the most draconic challenge? Who cares the earth of every one’s home?
But what can be done now? the globe is so big; the problem is so urgent, but the individual is so small. I felt confused and helpless. One day, Dr. Y coughed severely, the nurse took a disposable cup from the drinking machine to pour a cup of water for him. He said, “No, don’t waste a cup.” Meanwhile, he poured the water into his own cup, then he put the cleaned cup on the place where the cup used to be. Some one said with laughter, “ Dr. Y is trying to save the environment.” He answered, “ Every one had the duty to protect our own tiny planet.” I knew what he mean. He played the record for me, and I saw how small the planet which we live was from the space on the record. He said that how we could destroy such a tiny planet without any concerns.
I am moved by the story and share it with all friends here.
