New Streams of Life (23)

Have been staying home and reading entrepreneur stories from Peter Jones and his
fellow Dragon’s Den member Duncan Bannatyne these three days. I had been working for the company nearly two months, until last Thursday my life took a little
bit of turn. I was told that I lacked communication with my fellow colleagues
regarding customs clearance.

But basically what I was accused was I didn’t communicate much with the girl who the company directed me to. I didn’t explain myself on the committee meeting
last Wednesday, because I didn’t know whether it was the right thing to do given the fact that the person who chaired the meeting was related to the girl (who
was just so incompetent regarding the job) who trained me.

I thought anyone sensible could see the reason why I went to consult other people rather than the girl but apparently I was wrong. After I got the letter saying that the company would like to terminate my contract, I knew there was nothing
that could stop me from defending myself. My friend said it was not a big deal
even if the company didn’t want me. But he didn’t know I wasn’t fighting for
the job, because I could get another one fairly easily if I wanted to. I just think in the life if you are turned down for no reason or for the reason that isn’
t really valid, you should always fight against it.

Originally my decision was to help my friend with his new start company, if the
company turned a deaf ear on my appeal. But having been able to finally have a rest and read during the past three days, I just don’t think regarding real-world business resolve alone is enough. You need experience, or at least you need to
have the access to the knowledge that is required in order for you to stay in the trade. My friend thinks that there is nothing in this world one can’t learn
oneself. Well, I agree. But the problem is if you always have to learn while you
run the business, you will end up moving on too slowly; and while you move on too slowly, the opportunity won’t stop to wait for you.

That’s why I decide to go back to work for the shipping agency if I succeed in
the appeal meeting next week. My friend wondered whether I will feel comfortable
after so much hassle. But I don’t really mind to be honest, as long as I can make the most of the opportunity while I work there. I want to go back because I
can be kept informed of the lasted shipping information regarding import and export; and I will have access to the business magazines again in which I can
spot loads of relevant regulations, old and new, UK government impose on the business.

While neither my friend nor I have the expertise to run a company effectively I
don’t see why I can’t learn it from this shipping agency, even if it is in a different field? Just like Duncan Bannatyne from Dragon’s Den said “If you can
run or learn to run one company successfully I don’t see why you can’t run another one with equal success.” It’s not going to be easy, but it is
definitely achievable.

The other day I was talking to my sister and I told her that soon probably I would have to buy my own car if I were to stay in this country. Then I suddenly realized that these many years between my sister and me it was always her who wanted to own a car, not me. But it seemed with so many years passed it is me who will possibly own one first. It was a bit dramatic but in a way probably it is bound to happen sooner or later anyway, judging from our different ways of viewing the world and life as a whole.

Basically I just think in the life if you want something you should always try to find means to achieve that. Or if you eye a bit higher than normal in the first place, you probably will end up owning more things, if you care to, along with
your achievement. But have said all the above, I should let you know that I like my sister dearly. That I said all this was by no means for judging her or anyone but just for getting my ideas across on this issue. Besides, to be straight with you, I don't really take pride in owning things such as a car.
