Review of "The Bucket List" ... a movie
I just finished watching a new film:"The Bucket List", starring the wonderful black actor Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Morgan Freeman is always a pleasure to watch. He exudes warmth and kindness in both face and voice. Jack Nicholson ... he just is himself.
This is a fantasy brought to life
Two men, a black car mechanic who had wished to become a history professor and a rich financier learn they have terminal cancer. They are bedmates in the hospital owned by the corporation Nicholson owns.
Both have been given little time to live after receiving chemotherapy
Freeman, before learning this sad news, had begun a list, the "bucket list", called such because it was a list of the things he had wished to accomplish in his life before he"kicked the bucket".
Nicholson finds this crumpled list on the floor, discarded by Freeman, since he felt it was no longer reasonable to consider completing it.
Nicholson decides to use some of his many millions to attempt to do the things on the list and adds a few items of his own.
Freeman, rather than living out his final months consoling his family, brings grief to his wife of 46 years by leaving on this journey with Nicholson.
The story unfolds as many listed items are being struck off as they travel and experience their hopes that were dreams and are now memories.
Freeman tells the following story: At the gate to the Egyptian Heaven a new arrival is asked two questions before being allowed to enter: . Have you found joy in your life? . Have you brought joy to others? How would you answer these questions?
Some items on Freeman's list:
Witness something truly majesticHelp a complete stranger for the goodLaugh until I cryDrive a Shelby Mustang
Nicholson adds:
SkydivingKiss the most beautiful girl in the worldGet a tattoo
One man survives to speak at the other's funeral.
I enjoyed the movie and will recommend it. Morgan Freeman has not lost his special touch.
