PanPanPan scores a Victory
Dear Forum Friends,
A little while ago I read Pan's article on the Basket Culture. I went shopping last weekend for milk, bread, banana's and eggs plus some boxes of cereal and frozen food. I came to the check-out and there I saw new bags offered to put your groceries in. Re-usable at a price of 99 cents. I almost passed it by, then Pan's article and appeal came before my eyes and I did not hesitate but bought one bag. It was big enough to put all my purchases in and I saved at least two, perhaps three plastic bags. They are a handsome and goodlooking bag, and I will get another the next time I shop. When Mary saw this bag, she said; "What a good idea!" then she cut off the tag, that came with the bag. It said:" Canada's Greenest Shopping Bag, will hold 10 kilo. Replaces two plastic bags. Made from Re-cycled plastic." Now where do you think it came from. If you guessed from China, then you are right. Canada's bigest grocery chain "LOBLAWS" is making an effort to help the environment. Now to show what one person can do. Often we will say, but what can one person do, we are powerless. No, here one person namely Pan started me to think about the need to eliminate plastic bags, and so I accepted the offering that I otherwise would not have bothered about. After all, plastic bags are still free in this country. So you see, this is why I say:" Pan struck a blow for the environment". China made it possible by manufacturing these superb bagsat a low enough cost and a Canadian grocerie chain has an enlightened executive who placed the bags in the stores.
Is that not an encouraging story? Best wishes, Uncle Ben
