My trip to Brockenhurst

Brockenhurst is an interesting place in that it is literately in the middle of
New Forest. A few minutes away from the railway station we were passing a relic
lodge gate. In the morning sun it looked seclusive and mysterious. Both my
friend and I thought it was a good start for a day journey.

The weather has gradually become warm during the past few days. Instead of walking in the chilly weather, we got quite warm in the sun very soon in the morning.
There was no trace of frost in the forest at all. Instead the stream ran quietly beside us, and the dead leaves lying on the ground were thick and made crisp sounds when we walked upon them.

There were of course the traces of squirrels and deer again. We didn’t go astray from the main paths as there were signs discouraging people to go deep into the forest for the sake of deer. But it was no less interesting to stay on the main paths as far as I was concerned. From time to time we would walk past cottages
. There was always noise of rooster and smell of wood burning to enjoy.

Also at this part of new forest, horses stayed semi-wild. So oftentimes we would
pass horses chewing grass just beside us. They seemed so involved in their munching and wouldn’t even bother to raise their eyes when we walked by! Then of course there were woodpeckers high up in the pine trees as well. Although they couldn’t be seen easily, they could be heard from quite a distance, which added a
primitive tinge to the forest itself.

Maybe because of the overcast weather, I thought this forest, although looking deep and spacious, looked a bit dull in the daylight. There was few green to be seen except the top branches of pine trees. Grass on the ground was mostly brown,
and so were the leaves. There were of course traces of spring to be found, such
as sprouts on some plant branches, but how much I would love to come back in summer! Everything should look very different by then.

It started to drizzle when we were just about to finish our journey. My legs were dropping after some five hour walking. But when we approached the last cottage
on our way, there were two black dogs rushing out barking at us nonstop. As a result, we had to choose another alternative but longer route, as had the two dogs ran towards us neither my friend nor I had the strength to run away.

Anyway it turned out an interesting route. There were fewer trees in the horizon
and on the open grass fields horses and sheep were seen rambling away. Then passing a small foot bridge my friend and I saw some little toads playing in the water under the bridge. I certainly hadn’t seen those creatures for a long time and thought they looked rather cute under the flowing water plants.

I don’t know what other people think, I certainly cherish those moments of being outside in the wild forest or just at any unknown places. The anticipation and
then right in the middle of exploring the unknown never fails to give me a feeling of connecting to the world and excitement, may it sound a bit silly. But I couldn’t help it. I just hope the feeling will always stay inside me as long as
I am alive.
