My trip to Isle of Wight

Had another exhausting but fun trip this weekend. My friend and I went to Isle of Wight from West Quay in central Southampton by ferry. The sun was bright, the
sky was blue and the sea was rather peaceful. My friend and I stood on the ferry
deck at 10 in the sun; both of us looked ahead with the feeling of adventure simmering back in our mind.

It was actually the first time I have been on a ferry. We were scheduled to visit France last year by Brittany ferry but had to call it off because of my visa.
But somewhat I didn’t feel regretted. It would have been a hurried trip, which
was neither my friend’s nor my style.

The ferry docked at East Cowes at 11 o’clock. Soon after we got off the ferry we headed towards the outskirts of Cowes to get away from the city traffic. We saw quite a few interesting houses along the way. From the styles of the houses one could easily see they were built in the far past. The red stonework and the style of the houses had the tinge of past grandness. They must have had their day
at one time in the past.

It was around 11:30 we walked into the green land at the outskirts of Cowes. By
our left side there was a river and by our right side there were sheep and Canadian geese on the grass and seagulls and black birds above the grass. Lots of new
hawthorn trees were planted and protected with long green tubes around. And there was a half deserted harbor on our way to Newport. On the bank of the river there lied lots of bottle green seaweed. Everything looked peaceful and quiet.

We got to Newport around one, and there we had refreshing strawberry milk shake.
To avoid seeing similar scenery, my friend and I planned a route going through
a piece of wood on the way back. But because we didn’t have a detailed road map
with us, after we walked through the forest we ended up walking on the beach at
the west Cowes by surprise.

To get back on the ferry on the East Cowes we had to find a chain ferry on the West Cowes to take us to the other side of the river. It was exhausting but we did have lots of fun. The sea looked quite different in the afternoon. There were
stronger waves because of the wind. The sunlight faded away quite early, leaving
the surface of the sea a calming color in the daylight.

Almost forgot to mention another interesting experience on the way back to the Cowes. We passed a cottage with a big garden just at the edge of the forest. There were a few roosters and hens rambling around on the enclosed garden ground. Then there was a huge sheep near the chickens. Soon after did the sheep see us it
ran towards us and made massive noise, acting like a ferocious dog! If there were no hedge between it and us, I was pretty sure it would have jumped on us and fulfilled its volunteering responsibility of guarding the garden and the chickens
.

This was overall a lovely, though the most expensive trip we had so far, trip. The island itself was not so amazing, but the shared moments and emotions were unforgettable.
