Love v.s. Life
Love V.S Life
“Life is very dear to all. Yet love is better than life.” Obviously, our teacher is against this saying. She commented that we can never sacrifice our lives which do not merely belong to us for very personal matters. I agree! Absolutely!
But can it be the reason why this saying does not make sense? I guess not.
The value of love is not manifested in the way we sacrifice life. When we are comparing the value of the two, we do not mean that only by ending a life can we realize LOVE. When we are pondering about the recent disaster, the earthquake which took place in Sichuan, we would always tell people that life is precious, the
most precious of all. We are reminded, warned to cherish our life, to remember
every minute of being with our families and friends. Then let us think about why
, why are we taught to care about the people even more than before. It is the sudden catastrophe that guides us to see the things we commonly take for granted.
And it is the love in those things that make them worth cherishing and caring! Without love, family is no longer a family. We now realize it is more important to care about our parents rather than quarrel with them. Why is that? What are those important people to us? It is the connection, not in blood but in soul and disposition that becomes a tie and forever, it is the link between our parents and us. What is the link? It is love!
Why did we feel so worried and urgent to call back home to make sure that everything is alright with our parents? Why did my mom send me a message right after they felt the earthquake to ask me if I was safe or not? Why all of a sudden, lots of students miss their homes and want to see their parents more than ever?
It is love! It is the link!
Why do we feel sympathetic and sad after getting to know the increasing death roll? Why are so many Chinese struggling to save and rescue every life in Sichuan?
Why are we all caring about the current situation in there and try our utmost to help them even if it is just a little money or clothes? It is love in our hearts that inspire us to do so; it is love for life, for our citizens, for Chinese
that inspire us to donate our blood and money to the sufferers; it is love for our country that asks us to take on the responsibility and do what we can to help
the people in Sichuan, to help ourselves, to help China!
Without love, even life becomes empty.
Life is not merely about a healthy body that functions well and for long. It is
the content that fills our souls. It is the experience of spirit that makes it a
life, a meaningful one. It is not the length that makes a life splendid, but the quality of it that really counts. Then love, is exactly the element that realizes the value of life.
