On Euro-cup
I just forget it is my which time I got up late (or very early in the morning to
be exactly) to see live Euro-cup football match.
To be frank, some of my friends and colleagues just could not understand why I could stay up so late to see two different countries other than ours to play football. For them, it is just 22 crazy persons madly kicking a ball! (hehe, although from some point, it is true). But what they do not understand is the history or background story about the matches. Sometimes, I do think that it is just like
Western paintings or Chinese Beijing Opera, only when you understand the story
behind them, can you really begin to appreciate them.
For example, Italian Team, their coach is Mr. Roberto Donadoni. To be confess, although my major is English I do think that one of the great disadvantages of mine is my poor memory. And I have especially poor performance on reciting foreign
names. However, Donadoni is an exception. Ever since I heard the introduction of him, I never forgot him. And as refer to the description to him, I recalled like this “ Donadoni, a husky and valiant midfield of AC Milano. Once he played very hard and he butted the other player and his jaw was disjointed and he swallowed his tongue, and almost suffocated himself.” … And also Netherland, it is which country that makes me love football. Actually when I began to be crazy about football, it is only because some 20 years ago, when The Three Musketeers helped their country to win the very first Golden Cup on international Matches. And
that documental film about the Euro-Cup of that year is “This is Football” Oh,
I love that movie. However the sad thing about Netherland is, it looks like they are so proud about their talents and most of them just have bad temper to their fellows or even their coach, so you could always hear “negative” news about
relationship among them so they hardly played well on big games. So it is especially glad for me to witness they played such wonderful games in Group C (the Death Group). And personally, when they lost their game to Russian, and when the whistle blew by chief umpire, and when I saw their forward Ruud van Nistelrooy immediate fallen on grass with his spastic legs I knew why they lost their game. They were just too tired, and they just devoted so much to make “revenge” to their old rivals like France and Italy. But how could you blame the team like this,
who strided out of the Death Group with Rank 1. and how could you blame this team with their rival counted on their mercy to make a fair play and how could you
blame this team’s coach, the former world famous forward Marco Van Basten, let
his Mr. Khalid Boulahrouz, whose daughter was just abortive, play against Russian? And furthermore, this time, this Netherland is united and even they lost the
game, it still gave us hope. Sincerely hope that they will be back soon.
Another magic team is Turkey. And if any tale-teller makes a story that there is
one team who can always “returns to life” on the last 10 minutes of the game,
could you believe that? While, let’s put it this way, if it could happen from
very beginning again, could you think that Turkey would take the risk to experience their former games all the same again? If the answer is negative, then ladies and gentlemen, you could begin to realize why there is that old sayings available there “Well, football is round!”
Now we have Germany, Spain, Turkey and Russia, and the day after tomorrow, they
will play with each other with a new round. What Tom Cruise said in his film on
A Few Good Men, “The hits just keep on coming!” With a exciting mood, I am looking forward to enjoying them and get the big “answer to riddle” about who will be the champion.
