Father knows Best
Dear Forum Friends,
"Father knows Best" was a title of a TV series long ago in the early days of TV. It has a humorous episodes and tried to portray family life as it then still existed with a father that worked a mother who looked after the home and the children, I think two.
Well this title must have stuck in my youngest daughter Tamara's head. Last week I received a call from her and she was obviously upset. What upset her, was the estimates to set a new restaurant location right. She and her husband, are operating a small but successful restaurant with Central American & Mexican dishes.
Now the time had come to expand and they had signed a lease with two month free rent to get the place ready. There was plumbing work needed and electrical work and other items like a hole in the cooler floor. All the trades are still busy on the West Coast and workers are hard to find. Therefore the high estimates for mechanical work. Mechanical work is not strange to me. I have often worked on adding electrical outlets and fixed plumbing problems. It all started when I was 10 years ole and a kind uncle presented me with a Mechano set. From that I learned the basics of mechanical work. So when I got the call with the question;"Dad can you come and help us sort this out?" I said yes and right away booked a flight with the computer. I left the next day in the afternoon.
My daughter and her children met me at the Victoria airport. The 7 year old girl held out a bouquet of flowers and greeted me with" Welcome to Victoria!" The older boy 12 grabbed my travel case into which I had put my tools and pyjammas. The younger boy 10 took my hand and we all went together to the car.
They took me to a restaurant nearby where we had supper and then to a market in Sidney near the airport. Here we had Greek dishes that were tasty and reasonably priced. It was part of a plan my daughter had to let me see several successful restaurants that she and her husband admired. Then I would be able to make some recommendations to them. We got home late and I was shown where I was to sleep. It turned out, that the couple had given me their big bed. I refuded and asked to be given the couch, of hich I had heard from my other daugher. Here I then mae my bed for the next three nights. To be continued.
